July 2 started out as many days do here in Eastport, Maine: foggy.
The curious lined the streets and wharves waiting on the arrival of the USS Hawes. The fog was thick and we knew she was there (we could hear her engines) and finally through the mist came the Hawes.
The USS Hawes came through Head Harbor Passage into the bay.
With the help from a tugboat and protected by the US Coast Guard, the Hawes was safely turned about and approached the breakwater. In the photo below you can see she’s flying the jolly roger (this ought to be a fun crew)….let the celebration begin!
